When It Comes to Large-Scale Solar, One Size Does Not Fit All
Rooftop solar and utility-scale solar have significantly different zoning needs. Despite this simple fact, many communities apply the same zoning rules to all types of solar, causing issues when developing projects. The Solar@Scale project, an initiative of the American Planning Association (APA) and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), has a new blog highlighting varying approaches to large-scale solar from a planning perspective. APA’s David Morley breaks down the past and present of large-scale solar PV zoning, and how the Solar@Scale program has solicited feedback and shaped recommendations to help local governments.
