Erie, Colorado undertook a number of initiatives to earn their SolSmart Bronze designation in 2023, including upgrading zoning requirements and making information more accessible to the public. The city also has emphasized expanding and incentivizing solar energy in its Sustainability Master Plan, which informs local government policy in the long term.
Erie achieved SolSmart criteria across the Permitting and Inspection, Planning and Zoning, Government Operations, and Community Engagement categories.
Erie, Colorado became the first Charging Smart designee in the West―and the first in Colorado―in 2024. This major accomplishment was given in recognition for Erie’s work to increase access to EV charging infrastructure and remove barriers to EV growth. That included updates to permitting and inspection practices, safety training for staff, zoning updates, and more.
